Our preparations for our European Tour are progressing well. It’s been very hard to adapt to the cold conditions in the UK Winter after 12 years of living in the Caribbean but at least we’ve been warm and cozy in the motorhome.

That all came to an abrupt change on Saturday when it was time for me to update the CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) for the scooter. I do have a full driving licence for a moped so I don’t actually need to do the course, but after 12 years out of the saddle, and a stroke in the meantime, it felt like the right thing to do. I needed to just get back on the bike under supervised conditions and go over all those basic skills again.

Just to make it extra challenging, I included sleet, hail, sub-zero temperatures and 30 mph winds. If I could make it through that, I could do anything!

I’m pleased to say that I completed the training in near-record time. It was so bloody cold he didn’t have to ask me twice. I made sure I did everything right the first time so I could finish up as soon as I could. Even so, it took almost 4 hours and I was sure I was going to loose some toes at the very least!

A big thank you to Dave at Cotswold Motorcycle Training for the 1-on-1 class. A bargain at £125 including the hire of the bike until we get our new one delivered. Our new scooter is on order – a Piaggio Liberty which looks smart and is really comfortable. We’ll update on that when she arrives soon.
